Creating a Table Image

by admin on February 6, 2010

in Rakeback Articles

When you are playing poker and you see a player who is calling every single bet and going all the way with it you give the player the image of being a loose donk. Just like this player gives off an image to you about how he plays you also give your opponents an image while you are playing. You can control your table image and use it to help you win money against your opponents.

If you don’t play a lot of hands you are viewed as a rock and no one wants to play hands where you raise. When you raise a lot you are viewed as a bully or a loose player and players then want to look you up because they don’t believe you have a strong hand worth raising with most of the time. You should learn to create a table image and learn to morph your table image as well.

Create an Image

When you first sit down at a table full of fish you want to create an image that you will force your opponents to view you as. You can start out playing tight, you can start playing loose, you can be really aggressive etc. Whatever it is that you do you need to make sure and test it to see if your image is solid. If players start calling you a lot when you are creating a loose table image you have succeeded and if they fold a lot when you raise and you are trying to have a tight table image you have succeeded. When you create an image you need to make sure you take advantage of it by switching gears.

Switching Gears

When you have a table image of being a rock the best way to take advantage of this is to start loosening up and stealing more pots. This will drastically change your table image, but if you space them out a reasonable amount you can more than likely steal a good amount before your weak opponents catch on.

When you create a loose table image the best way to take advantage of it is to then tighten up and play only strong hands. Players are probably calling you with many marginal holdings because they want to keep you honest. When you switch to playing tight after seeming loose you can capitalize because if your opponent makes a hand against you when you raise with your strong hand they will more than likely stack off to you to put you to the test.

Clueless Opponents

You need to make sure that you are keeping track of your opponents who are pretty much clueless as to what your table image is. You will see these players from time to time and you need to know when you are loosening up after creating a tight table image your bluffs will be useless against them. Save your money and do not try to bluff these ignorant opponents. You are applying too much psychology for it to be relevant to their level of thinking.
