Many players struggle with playing above their bankroll and never see a problem with losing some money here and there, but it will ultimately not be the best idea for players who want to be able to play for a living some day. To be able to be comfortable and not think about money at a poker table is when players excel in their play and can really get their bankroll to start going in the right direction. Players who sit in games with only 10 buyins or less will most likely be broke before they can get going. That is why at the minimum it is imperative to have at least 20 to 25 buyins in order to be able to build your bankroll and let it grow.
Too know when to move up in limit is all about being able to be comfortable with losing 3 or 4 buyins and not letting it affect your future play or plays you make. When players go on tilt and start dropping large amounts of money at a higher limit then they were playing previously it could drive them insane and cause them to go bust. The important thing when moving to a higher limit or taking a shot at a higher limit is to maintain focus at all times and be able to control your emotions. So many players today take shots and miss and are never heard from again. The fact is that there is too much information readily available in the world for players to continuously do that to themselves. Playing with 20-25 buyins for a game will prevent you from going broke unless you just really aren’t good at all. Especially playing online poker with that many buyins; it is key, because there is always a game available at any hour of the day and you could play non-stop and keep losing. Also, getting rake back from the site you play on is something that will allow break even sessions to be profitable and sessions where you just implode in a downward spiral it will allow you to not have all of it lost.
Any pro that plays in the high stakes world will tell you they have gone broke before and have done so more than one time before they could start going to games and winning at them. To be a grinder in the poker world is like going to a 9 to 5 job only at any given time you could lose your mind and lose a lot of money instead of just steadily working and building it like working at a normal job. Great things don’t happen overnight in the world of cash games and online poker. But, being able to beat limits and move up every couple months is what the best in the world have done and continue to do, so if you want to be up with them someday just keep grinding it up to the top and let your bankroll flourish.
