Taking Shots

in Rakeback Articles

In order to get a raise when you play poker for a living you need to move up in limits. The higher the limit you are playing the more money you are risking. This also means the more money that you will potentially win. You will still win and lose around the same amount when you move up, but it will be for a larger portion of money. It always feels great for any player to move up in limits. You win more money and you are dealing with a much larger number in your bankroll which makes you feel more confident. Taking shots to move up in limits is not a bad idea as long as you follow proper bankroll management.

Another great thing about moving up in limits is that not only do you win more when you win, but you also earn much more in rakeback. If you sign up for an account at Paradise Poker you will receive an exclusive 100% up to €1000 first time deposit bonus along with 30% Paradise Poker rakeback.

Discipline

You need to show discipline when you plan to take shots at moving up. You need to make a plan and stick to it. If your plan is that you are going to take a shot when you are two buy ins short and then move back down if you lose two buy ins then stick to it. There is no shame in moving back down. Just like moving up in limits you will move back down in limits a few times as well.

If you aren’t disciplined when taking shots you could really ruin your poker career. When you do this you are playing out of your bankroll which is running the risk of going bust. When you go bust you have no money to risk in order to win money with. This is like a writer with no pen.

Heaters

A heater is when you go on a big winning streak. I myself have had heaters that run all the way up to winning 35 buy ins in only 5 days. This doesn’t mean that all heaters will be like this, but are normally quite a few buy ins. When you go on a heater you want to be careful with moving up in limits due to it. Make sure that if you are properly bankrolled to take shots at moving up because of a random hot streak that you have been on then be realistic about your skill and stay at the limit you are at for a while longer. Some players who are lucky enough to go on heaters as soon as they start playing move up in limits because they have the bankroll for it and don’t really take their skill level into consideration. These players are normally unlucky enough to find themselves moving back down in limits in only a short matter of time.

Be realistic with yourself about your skill. You never want to play against players who are stronger than you. While there are fish at the higher stakes as well you can normally count that the players who are playing at the higher stakes are probably better players than those at the previous games you were playing.
